This is bang on, and what's more depressing is that it's a snapshot of our entire culture. We need to move away from everything being valued in monetary terms and start creating new forms of value that fundamentally matter to people (and then commit to living our lives according to those forms of value). Otherwise we've got no chance of a prosperous future (and the music will be boring as hell!)
