This is a wonderfully thought-provoking and insightful piece. The more I create, the more I realise that the art is coming through me, not from me. It’s an amazing experience and one that I am trying to embrace and delight in. The trouble is, we’ve all been conditioned to glorify our own individuality and achievements so one’s ego keeps getting in the way. I recently heard a fascinating interview with Kae Tempest when she described her efforts to “get out of the way so the work can come through.” It’s something I now have in mind when I’m creating a new work — let it reach its full potential and become what it wants to become.
