This is a really interesting article. One additional point — as an artist, it’s easy to be drawn towards more commercial creations as this is what will be more readily received. This is especially true in current times as there is so much ‘art' being produced (of all types and levels of quality) that it’s hard to get your voice heard — and then when you repeatedly get low levels of response, the temptation is to move towards ‘giving people what they want’. It’s a hard time to keep hold of your artistic vision, integrity and voice!
