Interesting article. I feel that the main reason for putting forward your point of view should not necessarily be to persuade the other person that you are right and they should see it your way. They may strongly agree with you or completely disagree but if you can present a perspective that resonates with the other person in some way and enhances their own views, either positively or negatively, then the exchange will have been worthwhile.
